The Chronicles Comic Stripping
The Start December 9, 2003 The End

You might've noticed that I threw up another webcomic at the end of the previous entry (though I've moved it here). I'm not quite sure what it is that makes me to want to start one, but I've always enjoyed reading comic strips. I remember discovering the first Garfield book while digging through a closet when I was young. I devoured the whole thing in a late night, and it led to my collection of a majority of the books. I believe that there are over forty now. My fascination with Calvin & Hobbes soon followed and I collected most of those books also. I really wish Watterson was still writing. Anyway, I remember reading other print comic strips afterwards, and while I thought The Far Side was funny, none of them really connected in the same way as those first two. Let me go ahead and piss a lot of people off by stating that I hate Peanuts and can't understand why everyone idolizes it so much. The style simply doesn't appeal to me. Granted, that's an obstacle that can be overcome...I hated Family Guy's style at first. However, the thing I can't overcome...Peanuts simply isn't funny. Snoopy and Woodstock are the only characters that are even occasionally endearing or amusing. Charlie Brown's constant insecurity is annoying, and Lucy's just plain mean-spirited. Enough with the anti-Peanuts rant...

Jump ahead several years to the internet age. Comic strips that were previously printed became available online. Jump ahead a few more years, and web comics begin sprouting up. The first one that I read was Sluggy Freelance. It's one of the few humorous comic strips I've ever encountered that contains continuity/complexity while retaining the ability to have each strip stand on its own. Calvin & Hobbes and Garfield were occasionally similar, but they typically had much smaller story arcs. Over the years since discovering Sluggy, I've encountered a few more web comics that are engaging enough to read regularly. I'm sure you've noticed my tendency to post Sinfest strips. I also read the bitingly sarcastic Something Positive, the why-didn't-I-think-of-that Diesel Sweeties, and the beautifully drawn Mac Hall. Recently, I really began to appreciate the video game-centered Penny Arcade. With that said, I figured that I'd reprint several funny Penny Arcade strips that are relevant to recurring topics in my journal.

Yes, this is filler until I get something up within the next couple of days.

"Yes, this is filler..."

Ah, the reference to Milli Vanilli. Don't blame that on the rain.

I'm Ryan Fellow, and I hear that Marchant sometimes lets the wirdy dords slip while playing intense games of risk or being skrewed over in video games... only when highly motivated though.

Girl, you know it's true. Oh, oh, oh. You're a big poo.

i think the only thing left to say is....everyone in here is a bunch of donkeys!!! oh don't start with me! you all know it's true!

If I really wanted to say it and felt it necessary, I would use it. Case in point: there's a certain Manifesto in the archives where an f-bomb takes center stage.

My general philosophy on "cursing" is that the notion is arbitrary and stupid. However, I usually consider my audience before I use it. If they feel similarly to me, I won't hold back, but if they don't, I try to avoid offending when possible.

Jeremy, as for football, I'm not sure I care to devote space in an entry. I just don't care enough about college football outside of Auburn. However, I will say that I support some sort of playoff and that USC vs. LSU would've personally appealed to me more. As for the Heisman, I know very little.

As for Peanuts, it's not funny how unfunny it is. =)

i didnt think those cartoons were that humerous that you posted. and peanuts isn't funny?! yeah, charlie brown is insecure and lucy is pretty mean at times, but i feel it's realistic and for that reason makes it funny. i do think that it has humor that only adults would "get"....anyway, i guess everyone's humor is different. ok it's bedtime.

"Fart you... butthole" If you don't get it, ignore it. Somehow I get the feeling that last P-A comic explains my life... if it were only that simple.

God forbid that Marchant should consider other people's feelings. I think he should drop some F-bombs in the next entry, just because.

Marchant, when you make a new entry, be sure to give your opinion on the BCS stuff. Personally, I hate the fact that USC is not playing LSU in the Sugar Bowl.

Also, give your take on the Heisman race. I think that Jason White is the most overrated of the nominees (not just because of his bad game Sat. night).

i suppose that's logical... but what if you wanted to say it, would you edit it then? i mean, would you edit what you want to say merely to avoid "offending" someone when it's your own diary... err... um... journal?

Posted by puppy @ 12/09/2003 12:48 PM CST

To avoid offending readers with particularly sensitive sensibilities. It wasn't essential to the humor.

why did you edit the word bullshit?

Nothing big, but I finally added some images to the two entries before the previous entry. The text really needed to be broken up a bit.
