Only 9 days...that's not quite as bad as it could be.

Follow-Up
You may remember from last week that I intended to get some work done before going to sleep. That didn't really happen. I planned to wake up early. That didn't really happen either. I missed the morning radio shift and a couple of classes. I'm happy to note that since then I've gotten back on schedule and been coming through with almost all of my obligations. I've even been updating the SGA and WEGL sites and doing office hours. In an additional follow-up, I dropped Analog Electronics. It ought to lighten my load and stress considerably.

The Lost City of Atlanta
As many of you know, I planned a big trip to Atlanta this past weekend. I informed a lot of people about it, but I guess I wasn't very good about logistics. Ray and I wanted to make the Braves double-header on Friday. They're a pretty rare occurence these days and you can't beat two games for the price of one. We delayed our departure a bit though so that Cat, Natalie, D, and Scotty could follow us.

"...and the home of the Braves!"
We managed to get to the 8th inning of the first game and excitingly witnessed Chipper hit a walk-off home run in the 10th. During the 3rd inning of the second game, D noted that she was hungry. I suggested that she get some food from the plethora of restaurants, and I even offered to pay. Well, she wanted some "good" food. Natalie seemed slightly interested in the game. Scotty doesn't care a flip about baseball. Cat wanted to make sure that they got out early to avoid traffic. Honestly, for baseball fanatics like Ray and I, this was a bit frustrating. They left around the 7th inning to go eat.

Soon after, Zac and Jeremy showed up to meet us. The Braves looked as though they'd mount a comeback, but sadly found themselves lacking for hits with the bases loaded and no outs. The traffic wasn't too bad as the stadium had only been half full. People suggest that Braves fans don't support the team...but I'd remind them that large numbers turn out when they're doing great. We've just been a bit jaded by the success and they've been mediocre for the past couple of weeks (though they're doing well overall).

Afterwards, the four of us met back up with the other four at the OK Cafe. I'd had a cinnamon pretzel and a couple of hot dogs at the game, but I managed to scarf some apple strudel. hehe...'scarf'...I never use that word. Anyway, we finished eating, headed to my dad's place, and found Sarah and Arika waiting for us. It was a mostly uneventful night from that point, but we had fun hanging out.

Grid-Iron Massacre
Ray and I slept late the next morning. In retrospect, I feel a bit bad since Scotty and D were up and didn't know what to do. They eventually borrowed my car to go find REI. A lot of you might yell, "But you never let anyone borrow your car!" And, you'd be right. If I hadn't been so sleepy, I wouldn't've.

Eventually, Ray and I woke up and went with Zac and Jeremy to the Auburn-Georgia Tech game. I was grateful that Jeremy had been able to get tickets for us. I actually felt kind of bad because I figured that his team (GT) would lose. Unfortunately, it was a slightly different type of slaughter from the previous week. For those of you that are unaware, this was the first AU-GT game in over a decade. The rivalry used to be rather storied, but we'd been beating them rather soundly before the series was called off in the 80's. After the first quarter, I was disappointed. After the second quarter, I was downtrodden. By the third quarter, I was feeling downright dejected. We showed glimmers of hope in the fourth quarter, but we were beaten quite badly. It wasn't that Georgia Tech was great...our offense just really really sucked. We still haven't scored a touchdown this season. Regardless, we stayed until the end of the game and watched the GT students tear down their goal posts. My first road game was one of our worst losses in years. In a morbid kind of way, it was fun.

Cat, Natalie, Scotty, and D left before we got back to my dad's. Jeremy and Zac left soon after. That left me, my brother, my sister, and Arika. However, Dixon dropped by and two teenage girls that my dad knew in a convoluted way showed up to hang out (they were supposed to clean the place the next day). I gave Andy a call, and all of us went to dinner with him and a couple of his friends. Afterwards, we whiled the night away playing pool.

My Dad, The Teenager
As an aside, I thought my dad was getting out of his weird phase, but he seems to have slipped back in...enough to where my brother was giving him dating advice in a dramatic role reversal. Someone remarked that after the way my parents act so young, it's a wonder that my brother and I have any sort of discipline. We found that pretty amusing.

Six Flagging
Awaking late on Sunday, Ray, Sarah, Arika, Dixon, and I headed to Six Flags. Ray and I had season passes and coupons that collectively allowed us all to enter for $10. It really was the perfect day to go to the park. There was a slight drizzle when they got there and the place was mostly deserted. We were able to ride an astounding 11 rides in four hours. Actually, I hopped back in free seats on two rollercoasters (Ninja & Superman), so that made 13 for me. Oh, and we rode Deja Vu! Amazingly, it was actually open...and it was...great! They really ought to have it run more. I'm a bit bummed that Scotty wasn't there to ride it.

If you're wondering about the girl at the bottom, the guy next to her is trying to kiss her.

That night, we met up with my mom and Jonathan to go to dinner at
PF Chang's. After my second time, I'm starting to become a fan of the place. I highly recommend the Crispy Honey Shrimp. Following dinner, Ray, Dixon, and I departed for Auburn. The ride was pretty enlightening.

Run-Of-The-Mill Contentment
Nothing particularly eventful has occured since then - a pretty run-of-the-mill week. Nice to have the weekend here. Ought to be a good one. My brother's headed up to Chattanooga for Arika's homecoming and Vanderbilt for the game.

All in all, I'm feeling great at the moment. I went to bed early last night and pulled 13 hours of sleep. That ought to allow me to get up in time for the game tomorrow. =)

Movie Reviews: The Return
I haven't seen many movies in a while, but I did catch a couple this past week. The highly-recommended "Finding Nemo" lived up to its praise. I'm not quite sure if I prefer it to "Monsters, Inc", but the voice acting was better than I thought it'd be. Oh, and I remember the trailers being the epitome of unfunny, but the film was pretty humorous...a case similar to "Dumb & Dumberer" I guess.

The night before last, I finally sat down and watched "Cast Away". I was prepared to be bored by a movie that most consider quite lengthy. Fortunately, I like long movies. Other than being unable to understand early dialogue due to noise (which my brother suggested was sylistic), I really liked the development of the story. The four year jump irked me at first, but it played out quite nicely. Oh, and I don't remember cringing at injuries as much as I did in "Cast Away"...the foot, the thigh, the hand. All of them invoked quite a sense of pain. It was quite funny when Chuck lost Wilson the first time, but the second time was rather sad. One interesting thing that I noted is that there is very little background music in the movie while he's on the island. Actually, there might not have been any at all. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh, and I've been watching a decent amount of tv lately. I catch "Futurama" and "Family Guy" most afternoons on TBS. "Family Guy" is consistently fall-off-the-couch-laughing funny. I've also gotten caught up in "reality tv". I normally hate it, but "The Joe Schmoe Show" is a bit different; it's a parody. I highly recommend it. The guy "that thinks it's real" is a big goof and hilarious.

Anyway, I really wish I had more to reflect upon, but I seem to be somewhat lacking in introspection lately. Hasta luego.

A few eclectic quotes for the road...

From The Onion...
Woman Assures You She's Not Mad
CASPER, WY—Your girlfriend of four months, University Xerox employee Rebecca Kohler, assured you Monday that she was "not mad" about being unable to reach you on the phone Saturday night, even though you said you would probably be home. "For the last time, I'm not angry at you, damnit!" a furious Kohler said. "Jeez, are you trying to make me mad?" The perfectly fine Kohler then proceeded to violently three-hole-punch stacks of photocopies and explain to her coworker, Annabelle Agneau, that the only person she was mad at was herself, for having thought you might be different.
From John Keats' "Ode on a Grecian Urn"...
    Bold lover, never, never canst thou kiss;
    Though winning near the goal - yet, do not grieve;
She cannot fade, though thou hast not thy bliss,
For ever wilt thou love, and she be fair!

"If I hadn't been so sleepy, I wouldn't've."

Marchant, I forgot to pay the girls and Scotty money for the Chick-fil-A that they bought us last Saturday before the Auburn-Tech game. I think I owed them $5 because I got a chicken sandwich and a large fry. Could you pay them back for me, and I'll reimburse you when I see you again. I apologize for this.

Dude, "Futurama" and "The Family Guy" are about the only shows I watch anymore (sometimes we catch some "Cosby" and "Saved By the Bell"). Our suitemate's watch "the Joe Shmoe Show" all the time, too.
I wonder how popular the shows are on other campuses...
