Harkening back to the serene international travel picture from last week. Okay, okay, okay...it's been a hectic few weeks. Sorry for the lack of updates.
Now to compartmentalize my life...
Segue So, I stayed off AIM for a couple of days...eventually, I got begged to get back on. The past several weeks, I've helped to get this "Auburn" room off the ground. We've had as many as twenty people in there at a time. Gives people a chance to meet others around campus that they might not normally meet. A few days after my last update, I decided that I was tired of getting the runaround from Brock and Mallory, so I told them that I didn't really care anymore...upon Cassie's encouragement, I told them that if they wanted to meet me, they could initiate, cause I was done trying. Well, at that point, they pretty much proposed meeting the next evening. I told them to give me a call the next evening and if they didn't, no skin off my back. So, they gave me a call and both of them along with Kiki and Elisa dropped by and hung out for several hours. It was nice to finally meet them all.
Six Flags Next thing that I recall is that weekend...I went home for Easter. Seems like forever ago at this point. I actually planned to stick around a little longer than I did. I got an invite to Six Flags though. So, I stayed with my dad that Friday night, and went to Six Flags with some friends (Scotty, Andy, and some of Andy's friends) the next morning. I actually got there a little early and tried out their expensive Max2. A gift shop has to be the strangest place I've seen for a DDR machine. Anyway, eventually they showed up and we toured the place. There was a crowd there, but it wasn't too packed. I think we began the day with Mindbender...which probably marks the fifth time in a row that I've done that. It's really becoming a tradition. It's such a good ride to start off with. The line isn't ever too long, and it has an "old school" vibe about it.
After that, we rode Batman. It went much better than last summer. The girls with us wanted to ride in the front, but we settled for a place near the back. It was actually pretty fun considering how fast it went. After we got off, we realized we'd be waiting for a bit. We pondered whether a person could hop back on the coaster in a free seat. I told Andy to try. He told me to try...so I did. I guess the people working figured I'd set some stuff down on the other side and went back to my seat. Never ridden a coaster like that back-to-back. Figured pushing my luck further wouldn't be wise...the blue hair probably would've given me away. In other park news, Deja Vu still doesn't work (I doubt I'll ever get to ride it as it seems to be removed from their website), and the Scorcher kept breaking down per usual. I wish it hadn't been so cold or I might've been able to convince some people to ride the water rides.
A few last observations...you ever notice how you see a really unusual group of people at theme parks? And, it's fine when you see them once, but then you notice them again later that day. At that point, it's a coincidence. After standing in line near them again though, it starts to seem a little weird. Do they think you're stalking them? Secondly, I felt the need to hop on my soapbox a few times and recall my visit to Universal Studios a few Christmases ago. We were staying at their hotel, so we got to go straight to the front of every line. It was nice, but at the same time, you feel bad as you walk by all of the people that have been waiting forever. Theme parks used to be models of equality for the most part. Almost everyone had to wait in the same line together. Now, you've introduced a bit of a "class struggle" to the equation with this whole pay for "Fast Queue" system. Yeah, just another random thought. Anyway, I'm hoping to get a group to go back to the park this summer.
Easter I finally got home Saturday night and arrived to the Davids and some other friends hanging out by the pool. We sat around and chatted for a while. It was good to catch up even if it was somewhat brief. I was able to do the same with my mom and siblings at lunch the next day before heading back to Auburn.
First Director General, Then The World I don't recall much from the first part of the week, but the MUN (Model United Nations) conference kicked in about half-way through it. After almost two years of being part of the "organization," I finally got to do a real job...which is about the commitment level I was looking for. Anyway, as "Director General" (the title for a glorified babysitter), I took care of the pages that delivered notes. I usually get along with kids pretty well, so me and the dozen or so of them had a good time. They got rowdy occasionally, but what can you expect from a bunch of middle-schoolers? I think they really liked it when I took them on "field trips" to the arcade and radio station during lunch breaks. Some of the MUN people want me to get more heavily involved next year as an associate chair or something, but I bargained so they'd let me keep my original page director job too.
I'm trying to recall what else of import happened around that time. Oh, that's right...Brad (our Press Director) had a small party one night. Got to know some of the group outside of a "professional" setting. I also met his girlfriend Valorie. I kept trying to figure out where I knew her from cause I knew she looked familiar. Eventually, the conversation hit upon DDR and I realized I'd seen her play a couple of times back in the fall. Hazel also chimed in that she loved DDR. I'd finally just gotten my dance pads that evening and invited the whole group over to play that Saturday for the regularly-scheduled party.
Worlds Colliding That Saturday, I had the biggest turnout to date. I think there were around thirty people. It was a combination of mixing my normal Navs friends with my MUN friends and my PMB friends. Twenty-six people in one game of Mafia was pretty insane. Oh, Devin was actually in town and stayed at my place too. He kept promising he'd be back. Took him almost a year, but it was nice seeing him again. Also, I finally met Aaron that night (he turns out to be even cooler in person), and my dance pads were a big hit. People finally felt like the game was accessible since it was in the privacy of a home and didn't cost money. Since then, probably about 15 people have played and at least half a dozen are hooked. I hope they're as good as the company claims, cause they're getting lots of punishment.
School ended later later last week and final exam mode kicked in. I pulled decent grades, but I probably should've done better considering I only had four classes. Most of the last week has been a blur of hanging out with friends, dancing, and taking the occasional test. It was sad saying goodbye to a lot of people. I'll probably see most of them at Kevin's wedding this summer, but people like Mike, Ros, and Aaron I won't be seeing much anymore since they're leaving Auburn.
Epilogue Welp...I think that about catches everything up. I finally made it home, and I'll be working on setting up the place I'll be working at over the next week. Going out with my brother and sister to get a Mother's Day gift today. I keep wondering if I should try to sleep this morning. My schedule is officially whacked again. Hopefully I can break out of this 5am-5pm sleeping schedule that I often get into during the summer. I guess that's about it for now. Look for more updates as my life slows down a bit. Ironic, eh? The less stuff goes on, the more I'll talk.
Before I close out, here's a brief public service announcement for those of you who haven't seen it before...
