One of the coolest pictures of reflection ever.

Thanks for all of the comments lately...even if they've been tangential, they've been pretty amusing. I wish you guys would get back to using real names though. I can check IP's to see which posts match up, but I still can't really tell who most of you are.

Anyway, nothing like a screwed up sleeping schedule to get me in the mood to update. It's currently 4am and no one's up. I've visited every website on my list, I've done all the posting on message boards that I can, and I'm still wanting to procrastinate studying for my French test in...7 hours or so. So what's been going on in my life?

At this point, I flip back to my last entry to refresh myself on where I left off. Wow...the last one was before Valentine's Day? That's ridiculous. I've really got to get on the ball. I've probably forgotten a great deal in the meantime.

Valentine's Day wasn't particularly special. Sandy was supposed to go out with some friends but ended up getting sick while I went to eat some Cuban and Italian food at AndyC's with a big group from Navs. I feel bad that her holidays get messed up...especially when I don't particularly help to make them good.

Saturday Night Mafia
While I was at the party, a guy I didn't know overheard me talking about Mafia and chimed in that he knew a few people that were looking to play but didn't have a big enough group. So, I invited him to come the next night. He came and brought a few other people. Most people seemed to have fun as we added a few slight variations to the game (like adding a cult). However, it really seemed to throw the advantage to the townspeople. The next weekend was somewhat similar...except they decided to twist the game too far. They gave almost everyone an occupation. The ideas were neat so I let them run with it a bit. What resulted was probably the most tedious and unfun round ever. The nights took what seemed like forever. Basically, it left a bad taste in everyone's mouth to the point where a few were tired of the game and didn't look forward to playing this past weekend.

I decided to make a stronger push to mix up the games this Saturday. A lot of people played Spades while some others and I played a few various card games. Eventually, I wanted the group to be able to come together. I threw out Charades as an option but there were a good number that didn't like it. Eventually, we decided to play one round of Mafia as a "break". We went back to basics. After the first game...people remembered why they liked it so much and we ended up playing two more rounds. One round of particular interest was a stellar game played by Matt. He basically helped kill off his two Mafia cohorts in the first two days and still managed to pull off the win. Leigh came forward as the vigilante...and then he came came forward as the real vigilante. I thought he was screwed. Somehow, he managed to convince everyone of the outlandish. I'm sure you're all enthralled with the story at this point, right? Several other times he came close to being found out, but ultimately came away with the victory. After two weekends in a row of the Mafia not winning, they finally won a couple of times.

School
I had several tests the past few weeks. I studied for hours for my Electromagnetics (E-mag) and Linear Signals & Systems (Linear) tests. Is there anything as discouraging as studying for hours and having the formulas in your calculator and yet still manage to bomb the hell out of the test? The E-mag test goes down in history with a couple other math exams that I failed the heck out of. I got a 30. There was a difficult bonus quiz later in the week worth an extra 30 points...which meant at best I could get 60% of 25% of my grade. With those odds, I decided it was better to drop the class and pick it up next fall. I'm not in a rush. The Linear test went a bit better and I think my grade in there is pretty good. My Great Books mid-term over "Orlando Furioso" went well. I managed a B...which isn't bad considering I'd read about 3/4 of the 550 page epic. Finally, French is going okay. All of the busy work bogs me down a bit though.

On other fronts, I interviewed for Program Director again at WEGL. I have a lot of doubts that I'll actually get it. And, in SGA news, it's the end of the year and I feel quite guilty for not doing more with my position. I don't know that I want to be involved with it next year. The elections debacle makes me want to stay away. At the same time, they may need a lot of help from people with experience. I guess I'll decide in the next few weeks based on what happens with WEGL.

Miscellany
There are several people that I'm glad I've gotten to see more of. I studied with the ever-busy and studious Miller for those engineering tests. And, I saw Rick a good bit more recently. JohnC is still acting pretty anti-social though. I've invited him to drop by a lot, but he's usually with his girlfriend.

I haven't seen my family too much lately. My mom, brother, and sister are over in England at the moment. I can't really begrudge them though. I've been blessed to go over to Europe as many times as I have. I think this is my mom's fourth trip over there (to England), my brother's second, and my sister's second. I've still got em one-upped on having seen Scotland. =)

This summer I'll be working at a new gaming/internet place above my mom's cafe, StarrStruck. Guess what they're calling it? It's kind of cheesy and it's the first thing that popped in my head...that's right - StarrGate. Funny, eh? Anyway, they'll have a LAN with high-speed internet, a big screen, several other tvs, an X-box, a GameCube, a PS2, and my brother's DDR machine. I get to "manage" and play games with the customers. Basically, it's the coolest job ever. Hopefully I can raise enough cash to buy those dance pads I've been wanting for a while. The ironic thing is that my brother may not get to use his machine as much as me this summer. He may need to come to Auburn early and take summer classes. I wonder if it'll be weird for him to live in my apartment with me not here. Which reminds me...

The past few days, I've been putting up lots photos and posters. I've had a few up for a while, but my walls were still looking pretty bare. I'd been wanting to make some collages for a while. Hopefully I'll be able to take a picture. Many of you still haven't even seen my "new" apartment. The only problem with putting this stuff up...I have this tendency to be anal (a collective "No, really?") about making sure everything is lined up properly. I also put up a print of a sketch of a ballerina I bought in Belgium the summer before last. It's over the bed in the guest bedroom (my brother's future bedroom). Kevin questioned my sexual orientation but I don't really care. It's a pretty picture of a girl...what's gay about that?

Movies
In the realm of film...when Rick was over one night a week or two ago, we watched "Igby Goes Down". I'd heard of it, but not heard much about it. It was quite funny in parts. It's reminiscent of "The Royal Tenenbaums" but follows a central character. I also watched "Serving Sara" with Matthew Perry. I'm a fan of his humor and there were a few laughs, but for the most part, it was pretty generic and forgettable. The last movie I saw was "Philadelphia". The acting by Hanks (IMDB couldn't have chosen a crummier picture; he looks homeless) and Washington was great and the story was engaging, but the relationship between Banderas' character and Hanks' seemed weird. Oh wait, we did watch "The Emperor's New Groove" last night in the early hours of the morning. We finally figured out what Kronk was saying as he fell down the stairs by turning the subtitles on. "Back. Elbow. Shoulder."

Closing Remarks
Nooga people...I miss you guys. I'll be up in a couple of weeks, but I wish some of you would come down and visit some time this semester.

Next weekend should be normal, the next I'll be in Chattanooga, and only three more weeks until spring break and I head back out to Arizona. Soon after I get back from there, we're having our MUN conference and then the semester will be over before I know it.

Well, time to nap a bit before I need to get up and study.

Oh, and does anyone ever question my titles? =)

WARNING: Gushy alert...please skip the next paragraph if you have a history of health problems.

One Thing More
The truth is...the title stands for 'baby butter bear' which is one of the goofy, cheesy pet names I came up with the other day. The truth is...there's this absolutely amazing girl in my life whose shoes I'm not worthy to kiss and who inspires me to smile, to think goofy thoughts, and to try to repay her for the kindness she's shown me. You may be sick of hearing this, but I don't think I'll ever get sick of saying it. The truth is...I love her. Just talking to her almost always makes my day. Sometimes, I'm not as thoughtful as I should be. I don't always do a very good job of expressing how much I care for her, but...the truth is...I care the world for her.

"...does anyone ever question my titles?"

Pi-Day is on 3-14 and it was already after midnight eastern time when I wrote the previous comment.

Oh, what the heck. I'll claim #20. Plus, today is Pi-Day. Marchant, remember to have a celebration moment at 1:59. (1:59 are the next three numbers in pi.) I still remember what you did in the seventh grade with pi. That was unbelievable and awesome. Have a good one.

Posted by Jeremy @ 03/13/2003 11:22 PM CST

And after 10 days, the comment frenzy slows to a trickle, if that. Anyone want to claim #20? Or at least give a shout to the M-Man to update?

Posted by Clockman95 @ 03/13/2003 08:51 PM CST

Cool, Marchant. Sandy has a new nickname now! I guess you could call her "o-de-man" for short. I'll talk to you later, man. I'm about to go eat lunch with Zac, William, and maybe Glenn. We are going to tear up the China Inn. "Ching chang foh tah ah so." (Shaq said that a few months ago when referring to Yao Ming. I thought I'd repeat it here.)

Posted by Jeremy @ 03/11/2003 10:38 AM CST

Jeremy, funny thing...I was actually thinking about how it would translate before you mentioned that...

'osita de mantequilla' I think. Literally, "little bear of butter".

And thanks for the comments, guys. =)

Hopefully I'll get a new entry up soon.

I drove by a "Tripple B" gas station/convenience store on Sunday. I really wanted a picture but didn't have a camera. Sorry bud.... I think the full name was "Tripple B One Stop". Oh yea.

Posted by DW @ 03/10/2003 08:20 PM CST

What's up, Marchant? I hope all is going well. It's too bad I couldn't catch up with you that night you came up for the senior play. Your journal is awesome and I have some comments to make about it. First, if you want to hang a picture of a pretty girl on your wall, that is not gay in the least. Your friend questioned your sexuality, I guess, because of the "artsy" ballerina stuff. But who cares? I've got hot girls on my wall (mostly Britney) and it's awesome. Secondly, to bring back some good old memories--"Mercanto, come se dice 'Baby butter bear' in espanol por favor!" Can you put Triple B in Spanish? Good luck. I'll talk to you later, man, and enjoy your trip out west.

Eat that! 14th comment! It's been too ooooooo long DrJekyll. Haven't see you on in a while..

Good to see things are.. blossoming.. for you. =-) I'll go back through all the journal entries I missed over the last several months and catch up (over the next few days).

In other news, I'm joining the Oregon Army National Guard. http://www.livejournal.com/users/joey_c/

Oh yea, this is ]Joey[. heheheh..

'Baby butter bear'? What the hell? Back off, buddy -- stupid nicknames are *my* territory.

Posted by Marit @ 03/07/2003 08:58 PM CST

There. I put a disclaimer. Happy? =)

You owe me one monitor and keyboard for making me vomit all over them both from that last paragraph.

Thinker. Where in the bible does it condone throwing insults or belittling other people? I am extremely hurt by your continued insults and find them very un-christian like. Do you talk like that at church? Telling the preacher he's a moron for telling one of his anecdotes (even if it is a bit off target like mine)? Explain to me the christian values you are displaying with those remarks?

Posted by The Laundry Man @ 03/05/2003 01:03 PM CST

i'm sorry too, laundry man, that you have to hear insults from me on this site, as well as on your little playground. don't forget to play 'red rover' at recess today, ok? don't be a moron, and i won't insult you. understand?

Posted by thinker @ 03/05/2003 11:49 AM CST

I am sorry you feel that way Thinker. However, if you would live as God wants us to, instead of making elementary school insults, maybe you'd be able to post something worth reading.

Posted by The Laundry Man @ 03/05/2003 10:10 AM CST

woo, i'm the sixth comment and i'm not a stupid laundry man jerk. by the way, laundry man, when you do your clothes, you're not supposed to stick your head into the washer and dryer. maybe if you stopped doing that, you'd be able to post a comment worth reading.

Posted by thinker @ 03/04/2003 02:56 PM CST

So I'm not going to get names out of any of you, eh?

Can you at least leave identifying remarks?

And, interesting story, LM.

Posted by marchant @ 03/04/2003 03:48 AM CST

I once ate a ham sandwich. It was rather good. It was in the middle of doing laundry. My clothes were in the one in the top right (second). Nothing was in front of it except for the table. I was sitting in the chair. A flower was outside. It was green. So was the grass. There was this guy named Lenny I knew. He was mad once. Like Joe Thompson mad. Do you remember Joe? The guy with a beard and forcepts. I eat food with chopsticks. The clouds were blue when I went there. Something like a twisted balloon. Not animal balloons, twisted, but not that twisted. There were no gaps. It looked like a twisted balloon. I have a milk bottle on my desk. It's brownish. It was chocolate milk. Chocolate wrench grease. FY60. I used mustard. It looked like a straw through that small hole with space around it. It wouldn't stay on one end. Splits in the air. A three-browed moustache on a white sundae. Watch out for the rocket.
