I wish my senior picture had been this good.

No, I'm not dead. And, I do update...really I do. Oh, and I appreciate all of the kind comments lately. =)

I've been up for 10 hours and it's currently 1:30...in the afternoon. Yes, as usual, my sleeping schedule is all out of whack. Thanksgiving break has a tendency to do that. Got in a couple of sleeping from 5am-5pm's and it's been downhill since.

Arizona
Over the break, as most of you are aware, I went out to Arizona to see Sands. I only got to visit for about 5 days, but they were quite nice. I had missed her a lot and getting to see her was rejuvenating. We mostly hung out over the weekend and I went to school with her on that Monday. She was afraid that her friends would freak me out or something. She underestimates my friends in highschool. hehe. I only really got to talk with Mark at any length...he's a little weird and I don't agree with some of the stuff he does, but he seems nice enough. He was at least kind enough to be friendly. A couple of her other friends are resentful of me for being a Christian (because Christians prejudge people), which opens an interesting can of hypocrisy. I think one of them warmed a little bit though later on the day I visited.

It was kind of interesting being back in highschool after two years. I'm sure that I blended in for the most part, but I can definitely tell a difference between college and highschool. I can't altogether put my finger on it, but I believe there's a good deal of difference in dynamics. In highschool, even a large highschool, you deal with the same people day in and day out for years, regardless of choice. You can really get to know some people that way, but sometimes you really don't want to. In college, especially a large college, if you want to be anonymous, it's not too difficult. The only people you are forced to spend much time with are those that you choose to. Sitting in Sandy's Physics class listening to two groups bicker over who solved a problem correctly, I realized why she'd get annoyed having to deal with that every day. Lucky she has some friends in there to distract her. Anyway, I'm sure you're all fascinated by my little sociological study, but let's move on.

The night before I left, she gave me her teddy bear from when she was a kid. It was just about the most wonderful gift I've ever gotten. When I left on that Wednesday morning, it was sad, but it wasn't quite as difficult as the last time. I realized I'd be back before too long. There was some definite strain for a while after I got back though. It can probably be attributed to several different factors, but I think one big thing was that it was coming down off of a high and anticipation for the next visit hadn't kicked in yet. Kevin asked me the other day if I'm happy. I don't think he believed me, but I am. Guess I just need to do better about expressing my happiness. =)

"Boys and Their Video Games"
I arrived back in Atlanta and was greeted with really cold weather. It had been cool when I left, but it was nice and warm in Arizona. Anyway, I drove back to Chattanooga for the afternoon/evening, saw my family for the first time in a while, and then after Thanksgiving lunch the next day, we drove down to the cousins'. It was the first time I'd spent any time with them as a group since last Christmas, and we pretty much picked up where we left off. Oh, and Ray and I even got them to play Risk again. Every time I can recall playing with them, my youngest cousin Jeff has won (or at least come very close and ended in a draw). It kind of frustrated me when Ray and Dixon decided to play NCAA2K2 on the PS2 and NCAA2K3 on the GameCube at the same time. They were both running Auburn football teams that had ridiculous undefeated seasons for 4-5 seasons. I just don't understand how it can be fun to do the same thing over and over without much challenge. They especially enjoyed recruiting (which consisted of an hour of scrolling through lists of imaginary prospects). Every now and then, Jeff and I wrestled the GC away and played TimeSplitters 2. It's become my latest obsession. After I came back to Auburn, I picked up a copy, and it's probably been a big reason why I haven't updated. I'm very close to finished with it...or at least, as far as I'm willing to get. It has good replay value though, and I wasted an hour making a map for it this morning.

Coasting
Since the break, I've been spending most of my time talking to Sandy, as much as possible with my Auburn friends before Christmas, and the rest playing games. Every now and then I'd study for finals. For the most part though, they've been easy peasy. One was an easy multiple choice thing before Thanksgiving, another was a take-home essay last week, another was a really short take-home essay this week, another was straight off the old tests, and the one today and the one Friday are open-book. So, you get the idea. The one on Friday will actually probably be my toughest...but I'm mostly in coast mode at the moment.

One particularly annoying thing about this week is that I've been sick. Sunday I didn't feel too well after lunch and since then, my stomach has hurt occasionally and I've been unable to breathe through both nostrils at the same time. I keep doing that thing where if you lay on one side, it all drains...so you can switch the nostril that you can't breathe out of. And, there's that brief moment where you don't feel stopped up, so you keep turning over and trying to get it to stick. Occasionally, I'll get the shakes and aches, but I usually only get those when I have a temperature, and I haven't had one at all. Eh well. Hopefully I'll be better soon. Seems that pretty much everyone has been sick at some point in the past several weeks.

Marchant, here's a suggestion: Update your entries more frequently. Having gone off to Arizona (again), I'm sure there are volumes of material to write about. So start exercising those fingers, Danny! ("Oh Sandy").

I'm really fucking jealous that you can just fly off to Arizona whenever it suits you.

So I was reading Thomas Hardy's "Far From The Maddening Crowd" and noticed the distinct similarities between Boldwood and Marchant.

Anyone else notice this? Anyone read Hardy? Anyone? Too bad....

Oh yeah, one more thing:

I have a dog named Sandy.
Amby has a cat named Cassie.

*What does it all mean?*

Actually, he was turned into a loggerhead turtle by an evil witch. He can't update because his flippers mash too many keys at once. Fortunately, we can return him to his former self if we beat him severely with hot mops and sleeping kittens. Come on, get in the Christmas spirit.

marchant was playing ddr in an arcade one day. he decided that after $30 worth of games, he was tired. he began to leave the store and held the door open for two little boys. clumsily, he smashed his fingers between the door and door frame.

that is why he can't type an update. right marchant? that's a more valid excuse than, "i didn't have time." (in his secret code that means, "i didn't care." )

Yay! An update! It's a great way to avoid work. :o)

Woohoo!! I got mentioned again... it wasn't necessarily good... but then again it wasn't too bad. Don't worry marchant, I'm not too big of a video game nut. I haven't had much time to play NCAA2K2 lately w/ research papers and exams, but the season will resume over Christmas. But then again, I'll hopefully be spending most of that video game time w/ my girl =D.

Good job John, your comments have inspired Marchant to update. Well, probably not but if it makes you feel like you really made a difference then go ahead and keep thinking that. Either way, the blog got updated....
